Boston, MA - Red Sox "Ace" - - and I use the word lightly - - Josh Beckett has been suspended six games by MLB for an incident involving the Angels Sunday.
If you don't know the specifics, you clearly haven't watched any Angels information in this state in the last few days, because it's been picked apart by every talking head and Sports Radio host from Humbolt to Encinitas.
Essentially, Beckett was giving a long look at Figgins on base before his delivery, so long that batter (and longtime Yankee and Boston Rival?) Bobby Abreu called time, and stepped out.
The Umpire granted the time out, and communicated that to Beckett, who "apparently" didn't hear him. The pitch that followed sailed right up to Abreu's noggin, despite the fact that Boston's Catcher, Varitek, had setup low and away for the pitch he'd originally called.
Abreu questioned Beckett's intent, Beckett took multiple steps - - against the direction of joke-of-a-boston-fan homeplate Umpire West - - off the mound toward the plate, and benches cleared.
After the fracas, FOUR ANGELS were tossed: Manager Mike SCioscia, for getting in Becketts face, Batting Coach Mickey Hatcher, for joining him, Justin Speier and Torii Hunter, for both being absolutely unhinged at what was done and said on the field following the altercation.
Not a single Sox was tossed or even warned.
The manager-less Angels hung on to beat Boston 5-4, taking the ultimate victory in the mess.
MLB today announced a six game suspension for Beckett, which means he will miss his next scheduled start.
Not enough in my book, if it wasn't Boston/NYY, it would be significantly more time.
What MLB SHOULD do is suspend West for the BOGUS BS he called during that entire game.
